Installation Instructions

Do-it-yourself Installation

Dash kits are available to you complete with instructions for do-it-yourself installation.

The following is an Installation Guide for both "Flat Overlay Components", and the 3-D Molded "Dash-Cap-System" components. Note: Some kits include both Flat & 3-D Parts.

BEFORE YOU START:

1.Interior vehicle temperature should be minimum 72ºF.

2.Make sure to read instructions carefully to determine those specific to your type of trim components:

1.FLAT OVERLAY - Flat pieces, not three dimensional

2.3-D MOLDED - Three dimensional, thin components

3.Install the smallest pieces first, to familiarize yourself with the process.

LET'S GET STARTED:

STEP 1. SURFACE CLEANING & PREPARATION (Flat Overlay & 3-D Molded Dashes)

Clean the specific dash areas that are to be covered by the trim thoroughly with Simple Green and next with Isopropyl Alcohol. The surface area should be free of lint or dirt, and more specifically silicone based "Vinyl Treatment Products". These products leave a silicone residue that will greatly reduce adhesion.

Caution!!! Vehicles that have been treated with Vinyl Treatments need to be thoroughly cleaned until the surface area is dull in appearance, and there is no feel of residue to the touch of your fingers. Special care should be taken on any used vehicle. The surface can be tested with a piece of masking tape in order to see if it will adhere.

STEP 2. TEST FITTING THE DASH TRIM (Flat Overlay & 3-D Molded Dashes)

Before removing the tape backing, test fit each component in order to get comfortable with your placement, ensuring that buttons and vents move freely.

If your kit is a 3-D Molded Kit, go to Step 4.

If you are installing a Flat Dash Overlay this will help you establish the areas to be covered with 3M Adhesive Promoter.

STEP 3. ADHESIVE PROMOTER (Flat Overlays Only)

Apply 3M #4298 Adhesive Promoter to all areas being covered by the Trim Components. Allow to dry (5 minutes) before applying trim pieces.(Flat Overlay pieces only.)

Caution!!! Adhesive Promoter is corrosive, be careful not to drip it onto any area not being covered by the Dash Trim, as it will permanently discolor whatever it comes in contact with. To use adhesive promoter cut open a small corner of pouch. Use a Q-Tip to apply promoter. Fold promoter corner, place paper clip on fold so promoter will not evaporate between uses. One 3M adhesive promoter is more than adequate for the installation of this kit. Rubber Gloves are recommended during this process. Preparation for adhesion is the most important factor in a quality installation. Installation error is not covered by warrantee.

STEP 4. INSTALLATION TO THE DASH

With a Standard Utility Knife catch the corner of the Red Liner on the 3M tape and remove on all pieces.

After installing the pieces as shown below, do not handle the new trim for a period of 72 hours.

STEP 5. FINISHING TOUCHES

3-D Molded Dash

In a spray bottle, mix an equal amount of water and isopropyl alcohol.

Once the Red Liner is completely removed, use the "Dash Spray" mixture and lightly mist the tape surface. This will reduce the tape tack upon initial contact, and will help reduce premature contact that can prevent the dash from fully bottoming-out.

Once you are comfortable with placement, apply the overlay straight and even, not right to left, or left to right. Press down, applying gentle to moderate pressure until the part is in place. Once the product is in place, inspect all areas for adhesion and gently press down on any areas required.

CARE AND CLEANING

Now that you have successfully installed your new dash overlay kit, keep it looking like new by following these simple care instructions.

Clean using a dirt free towel polish dash using water, or standard household Window Cleaner.

Avoid Vinyl Treatment products.

Flat Dash Overlay

Once Red Liner is removed gently press product into place. Large Components should be installed left to right to avoid center buckling. Never force a component that requires bending. If bend resistance is experienced, use a Hair Dryer as a heat source. This will soften the material and make it easier to bend into place. Once Dash Trim pieces are all in place, give all pieces a final press using your fingers, this will act as a final visual inspection before the tape cures.
